Our Art Department recently took Year 8 and Sixth Form pupils to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter for a day of creativity, inspiration and, of course, a little bit of magic!
The trip gave pupils the opportunity to explore the incredible range of creative careers behind the Harry Potter films, from costume and textiles to set design, prop making, special effects, illustration, model making and creature design. It was a fantastic opportunity to see first hand how skills developed through Art and Design can lead to exciting careers across the UK’s creative industries.
One of the highlights of the day was taking part in a hands on creature design workshop. Pupils were challenged to develop and create their own magical creatures, thinking about character, form, materials and how their ideas could be brought to life. There were some wonderfully imaginative creations and thankfully, none escaped from the workshop!
Pupils also explored the incredible sets, props, costumes and models used in the films, looking closely at the design decisions, craftsmanship and problem solving involved in creating such a detailed fictional world.
A brilliant day was had by all, with plenty of inspiration, creativity and a fair amount of ‘wows’ and ‘oooooos’ were heard by all! We returned to school with new ideas, new inspiration and excited to start new projects!
And this is only the beginning… who knows where the Art Department’s next creative adventure will take us?
