Aspire & Achieve

Year 9 pupils enjoyed an inspiring visit to Caerphilly Library, where they met author A.J. Clack, writer of Lie or Die and Lie or Die: Blood Moon—thrilling stories set in the iconic Caerphilly Castle.

During the session, pupils listened to a dramatic reading from the books and took part in creative writing activities, crafting their own suspenseful extracts inspired by the author’s work. They also joined in exciting “tension games,” designed to help them understand how to build atmosphere and intensity in the thriller genre.

Students had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions about writing, publishing, and the creative process, before exploring the library’s collection. Many pupils also signed up for library cards, eager to continue their reading journey.

Staff were particularly impressed by the excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and creativity shown by all pupils throughout the trip—a credit to themselves and the school.
