Letter from the Headteacher to Parents and Carers – 1 December 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

Unfortunately, we have been notified this morning that that we have a positive case of Covid-19 within the school.

A pupil has tested positive for coronavirus and we therefore need to follow strict public health protocols to ensure the health and wellbeing of the whole school community.

As a result, all children in class 9.2.1 and those who travel on the Yellow St Ilan Road school bus should be collected from school this morning as soon as possible by a member of their household.

All children in class 9.2.1 must isolate at home for 14 days.  In case your child is not clear which class they are in:  class 9.2.1. is a Year 9 class, it is a top set class and this class have had all of their lessons in the sixth form common room in the S block.

As the positive case also travelled on school transport, all children who travelled on the Yellow St Ilan Road bus on Monday 30 November 2020 must also isolate at home for 14 days.

This means that all children in class 9.2.1 and on the Yellow St Ilan Road bus will return to school on Tuesday 15 December 2020.

Current public health advice states that other members of your household do not need to self-isolate.  You should, however, be particularly vigilant about your child’s health and if they display any coronavirus symptoms, you should ensure that they are tested as soon as possible.

Home schooling will, of course, be provided for these children for the next two weeks.  These details will be shared on Google classroom by their class teacher from tomorrow onwards.  We may also use your child’s school email account and the school website to share details of the work they should complete over the next two weeks.  Mr Dickinson (Assistant Headteacher KS3) and Mr Harrison (Assistant Headteacher KS4/5) will confirm these arrangements tomorrow for any child who is unsure of how to log onto their accounts.

I know that this will cause you all some concern and this is completely understandable.  However, I want to reassure you that all appropriate risk assessments and safety measures are in place throughout the school.  These are being strictly followed to protect all pupils and staff and to limit the risk of any cross-contamination.

Thank you to all parents and carers who have already collected their child (9.2.1 and Yellow St Ilan Bus) from school.  We very much appreciate your support in responding so quickly.

Yours sincerely

Miss Collins
