Dear Parents and Carers
Unfortunately, I have been notified this evening that that we have a positive case of Covid-19 within the school.
A pupil has tested positive for coronavirus and we therefore need to follow strict public health protocols to ensure the health and wellbeing of the whole school community.
As a result, all pupils in Year 7 must isolate at home for 14 days since the positive case was last in school.
This means that all pupils in Year 7 must isolate at home until Friday 6 November 2020. This means that they must not leave their home for the duration of this isolation period.
Y7 pupils will return to school site on Friday 6 November 2020.
Current public health advice states that other members of your household do not need to self-isolate. You should, however, be particularly vigilant about your child’s health and if they display any coronavirus symptoms, you should ensure that they are tested as soon as possible.
As you will know, due to the national lockdown, pupils in Years 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 are learning from home in the week beginning 2 November 2020 as directed by the Welsh Government. Home schooling will also now be provided for Year 7 from Monday 2 November until Thursday 5 November 2020. These details will be shared on Google classroom by their class teacher as per their timetable. We may also use your child’s school email account to share details of the work they should complete over the next week. We have demonstrated these sites to all pupils and shared details of how to access and their logins but please do not hesitate to contact the school on Monday 2 November if your child is unsure.
Learning from home in week beginning 2 November means:
- Your child’s learning from home timetable will match their normal school timetable.
- Your child will have 5 lessons a day.
- Lessons will take place at the same time as if they were in school.
- Each lesson will include work for one hour.
- Lessons will either be video lessons, independent practice lessons, or a mix of the two.
- Video lessons require your child to watch pre-recorded videos where their teacher will explain and model the work that students complete during the lesson.
- Independent practice lessons require your child to self-manage completing tasks set by their teacher at the beginning of the lesson e.g. past exam questions.
- The class teacher will be available online during their lesson time to support your child if they get stuck or want feedback.
- Teachers can be contacted during the lesson through Google Classroom or by email.
- Students can complete their work online, or in their exercise books, so there is no need to print anything.
Year 8 pupils will be taught on school site in their classrooms in their mini school site by their usual teachers from Monday 2 November. This is in line with the Welsh Government national lockdown directions.
Children in our SRB from Years 7-Y11 are also able to attend school in the week beginning 2 November as directed by CCBC. (Please note that this is because the Year 7 and Year 8 SRB class is a small blended age class taught in the Year 8 ‘bubble’).
As confirmed earlier in the week, those pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13 who are sitting planned GCSE examinations in that week can also attend school for their examination as per the details in the letter to them.
I know that this will cause some concern and this is completely understandable. However, I want to reassure you that all appropriate risk assessments and safety measures are in place throughout the school. These are being strictly followed to protect all pupils and staff and to limit the risk of any cross-contamination.
