Dear Parent / Carer
The autumn term at St Cenydd has been very successful. We have been delighted with the start that many of our pupils have made to the school year. I have been impressed with the attitude, effort, attendance, and commitment demonstrated by many of our pupils each and every day.
It was a pleasure to celebrate the success of so many students during our end of term Headteacher Award Assemblies. You will find details about these events as well as much more on our school website. Congratulations to all students and staff who have ensured these continued improvements and thank you for your continued support.
Last week we held our Christmas Fayre, run by pupils from across the school supported by their teachers. We were raising money for our chosen charity, the Aber Foodbank. We were delighted to raise more than £1,500 for this very important charity which supports many of our local families.
End of term and start of term arrangements
Term ends at 2.55pm on Thursday 22 December 2022. Reward trips will take place on Wednesday 21 December, and we have our traditional staff pantomime and ‘Christmas Jumper Day’ on our last day, Thursday 22 December. Students are invited to wear a Christmas themed jumper over their school uniform, or accessorise their school uniform, donating to our nominated charity, the Aber Foodbank.
Following the Christmas break, all students return to school at 8.30am on Monday 9 January 2022.
Reminders and information
When we return to school on Monday 9 January 2023, please ensure that your child returns in full and correct uniform, and with equipment ready for the new term (black pen, pencil, an eraser, ruler and a calculator are required each day). Attendance remains an important focus for the school and must continue to improve. We continue to reward good attendance and punctuality at school.
If you think your child is eligible for a free school meal, I urge you to apply. You will find information on Caerphilly Council website but please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Head of Year if you would like assistance with this.
As we are now in the winter months, please ensure that your child comes to school prepared for the weather in a warm, waterproof coat that fits over their blazer, and in suitable footwear. I wrote to you last week regarding arrangements for adverse winter weather. Please be assured that the school will always open providing we have sufficient teaching and support staff available for lessons to take place throughout the day, and that it is safe to do so. It is always my intention for the school to be open if it is safe to do so.
If your mobile phone number, address, or any other details have changed, please send a letter to the school with your up-to-date contact information.
KS5 and Year 11 mock exams will take place in the spring term: KS5 mock fortnight starts on Monday 9 January 2019 and Year 11 mock fortnight starts on Monday 6 February 2023.
We have a wide range of extracurricular opportunities available to students in the spring term. They are the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill and make new friends. The full list will be available on our website and includes lunchtime and after school activities. We also make snacks available to participating pupils. Pupils' staying after 2.55pm should be supervised by a member of staff in an organised activity. After 4pm students who have been participating in activities can access a free Stagecoach bus pass to travel home if needed. These are available from the school reception and should be collected at 3pm before the activity begins.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate pupils and staff for the many successes of this term, and to thank you for your continued support.
I wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.
Miss Collins
