Coronavirus / COVID-19 – UPDATE 18 March 2020
Dear Parent / Carer
As many of you will have seen and heard, the Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams, made an announcement this afternoon regarding school closures, bringing forward the Easter break for all schools in Wales. Welsh Government has confirmed that schools across Wales will shut on Friday. Following this announcement by the Welsh government, and in response to our now own reduced staff availability, please see below
Arrangements for Thursday 19th March 2020
Years 7, 8, 9 and 10
School closed to all Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 pupils other than the children of emergency, health and social care workers
Years 11, 12 and 13
School open to Year 11, 12 and 13 pupils
For pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13 we will run lessons as normal tomorrow (Thursday) to ensure that these pupils have learning materials and support over the next four weeks in the lead up to their examinations. We will also plan time for them to collect materials and resources from all of their teachers. Year 11, 12 and 13 should report to the Main Hall in the morning.
For those pupils in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 whose parents are emergency, health and social care workers, we will run an amended programme of learning tasks on Thursday and Friday to ensure support for these key workers. We anticipate these arrangements will only be accessed by a small number of children and these children should report to the Lower Hall in the morning.
For all other pupils in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, the school will be closed due to reduced staff availability.
Please note that the current advice, which is subject to change, is that if you or anyone in your household has a high temperature or a new and continuous cough - even if it is mild - then everyone in your household must stay at home for 14 days and keep away from others. Please see the school website for up to date information and links.
Arrangements for Friday 20th March 2020
School closed to all pupils other than those whose parents are emergency, health and social care workers
School will be open to all available staff to continue planning work for all pupils to complete from home over the next fortnight on Google classroom.
Work for all pupils will be set through Google classroom, via Gmail and Classcharts over the coming weeks as per my letter earlier this week. Teaching staff have been explaining to their classes over the past few days how this work will be sent and some tasks has already been set. It may take some time for this system to run smoothly as we manage this school closure with staff absence and it may not be fully operational in these next few days. Thank you for your support as we implement this next part of our contingency plan.
The national situation is changing quickly. I have been very proud of the response of our pupils and staff as we manage this ever changing situation. We will keep you updated with the school position as per our usual arrangements through the school website and text service.
We appreciate your continued support as we face this challenging situation together as a community. Please take care of one another.
Yours sincerely
Miss Rebecca V Collins
