Dear Parent and Carers
This half term has started well and I have been pleased with the attitude and engagement of nearly all pupils.
Summer exams
KS4 and KS5 pupils should now be revising at home each day as we near the summer exam series. We have seven school weeks remaining before the external exams begin. After school revision sessions have begun, 1-2-1 interviews with Y11 are taking place this week, and the Y11 Prom Passport has been launched. On Friday this week we have employed a speaker from ‘Positively You’ to present to all Y11-Y13 pupils. This is the first in a series of three presentations over the coming weeks to inspire, reassure and share useful hints and tips in the run up to these important exams.
Mr Bown wrote to you in the last few weeks with links to support materials and useful websites. The links are on our school website under the revision tab in the student section. Parents can access this as well.
Please do not hesitate to be in contact with Mr Corke, Head of Year 11, or Mr Jones, Head of Y12/13, if you have any queries in the lead up to these important exams.
Ukraine
We will be fundraising over the coming weeks to raise money for DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee). As ever, our pupils have reacted with compassion and care, and are keen to support this important charity. Many pupils have chosen to wear a blue/yellow badge or ribbon on their blazer.
Covid – WG guidance
You will be aware that WG have published their long term Covid 19 plan as we move from pandemic to endemic. This guidance, called ‘Together for a safer future’, outlines the duties on all of us as we move forward.
Although the pandemic is not over, WG have stated that all legal measures are likely to cease on 28 March 2022. Schools will still be required to operate a risk assessment and we can plan with growing confidence. School trips are being planned, the prom returns, we hope to run a ‘normal’ Y6 into Y7 transition this summer, we no longer have to wear face coverings in classrooms, Y11 will have a year group photograph taken together next week, etc. We hope to return to in person year group assemblies in the coming weeks. We will return to our normal uniform standards as the weather improves and additional layers of clothing will not be needed.
Mitigations that remain in place include
- Do not send your child to school if they have any Covid symptoms or are unwell. Please keep them at home if they have symptoms.
- Please ensure that your child completes a Lateral Flow Test twice a week (Monday and Thursday morning) before attending school. This is an essential mitigation as LFTs detect positive cases who do not have any symptoms but can still infect other people. If you would like your child to collect LFT packs from school and haven’t signed up for this as yet, please do so. This testing scheme will continue until the Easter holidays.
- Please ensure that your child brings a face covering to school. All pupils will be strongly encouraged to wear a face coverings when moving around indoor communal areas outside of the classroom, such as corridors, where physical distance cannot be maintained. Face coverings will no longer be routinely recommended in classrooms.
- Please have your child vaccinated and/or boosted as soon as they are eligible. This is another vitally important mitigation which supports the health and wellbeing of all within our school and community.

Vaccinations for 5-11 year olds are now available – please see link to letter from the health board.
Supporting learners to take part in local elections
You may be aware that changes to legislation mean that anyone who is 16 or over on 5 May can now vote in local government elections, so long as they have registered. In order to vote on Thursday 5 May, these newly enfranchised young people must register to vote by Thursday 14 April.
The Welsh Government is reaching out to secondary schools and colleges across Wales to support Voter Registration Day on 24 March. From our national sports people, to libraries and communities, schools, colleges and the national media, we can work together to encourage our young people to vote and to make a difference to the future of Wales.
Parent Governors
We have two vacancies for Parent Governors on our Governing Body. Please find attached information about the role of a governor as well as a nomination form should you wish to stand.
Thank you for your support.
Yours sincerely
Miss Collins
