Letter from the Headteacher to Parents and Carers – 16 December 2025

{item_alt_tag}

Dear Parent/Carer

As we come to the end of this successful term, I want to update you on our arrangements for the remainder of this week and for the start of the new term.

It has been my great pleasure to present the Headteacher Awards over the past week.  My congratulations to all our worthy award winners for their excellent effort and hard work.

Our Christmas Fayre was, yet again, a great success.  Thank you for the many donations received, with over £900 raised and donated to the Aber Foodbank.

Christmas trips are taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, with off site visits and in school activities.

And we will end this term on Thursday in our traditional St Cenydd Christmas way with our staff pantomime and ‘Christmas Jumper Day’.  Pupils may wear a Christmas themed jumper over their school uniform or accessorise their school uniform, with donations made to charity.

Term ends on Thursday 18 December at 2.55pm.

Following our two-week Christmas break, all pupils return to school at 8.30am on Monday 5 January 2026.

When we return to school on Monday 5 January 2026, pupils must be in full uniform, ready to learn (black pen, pencil, an eraser, ruler and a calculator are required each day).  Now, in the winter months, children should be prepared for the weather in a warm, waterproof coat and in suitable footwear.  You will find details on our website about arrangements for adverse winter weather.  Please be assured the school will always open providing we have sufficient staff and it is safe to do so.  Please also see this link about water safety in winter.

If you think your child is eligible for a free school meal, I urge you to apply.  You will find information on the Caerphilly Council website, but please contact your child’s Head of Year if you would like assistance with this.

Attendance remains an important focus and continues to improve.  All children should aim for at least 95% attendance and we will continue to reward good attendance and punctuality at school.

If your mobile phone number, address or any other details have changed, please send an email to the main school email account with your up-to-date contact information.

There will be a Year 11 Parents Information Evening on Thursday 8 January 2026 at 5pm in the Main Hall as we talk through the spring term as pupils prepare for their external examinations.

Mock examinations for sixth form students start on Monday 12 January 2026.  Year 11 mock exams take place the following week, Monday 19 January 2026.  Students must revise for these examinations, particularly in the second week of the Christmas break.  Full attendance remains essential for examination success as external final exams will now begin in practical subjects.

Thank you for your continued support.  I wish you and your family a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

Miss Collins
