Dear Parents and Carers
We have enjoyed another successful week at St Cenydd. It has been a delight to see the number of pupils involved in extracurricular activities, and for our sports teams to once again be competing. Nearly all pupils’ attitudes to their learning in class is very good, nearly all pupils are punctual to school, and uniform standards of the vast majority are in line with our expectations.
We ask for your support in ensuring that your child is symptom free when you send them to school. We have had some pupils who have attended school with a cough and a temperature who have not been for a PCR test. Please do not send your child to school with Covid symptoms, however mild. Please book a PCR test for them and let us know by either phoning the school during the school day or emailing stcca@caerphilly.gov.uk outside of school hours. Like nearly all schools, we have had at least one positive case in all year groups since the beginning of term. As you will have seen in the media, positive case rates are high across the community and the country, and we ask for your support in ensuring that St Cenydd school community remains as safe as possible. Please continue to
- Provide your child with a clean face covering each day.
- Encourage them to wash their hands frequently or use hand sanitizer.
- Lateral Flow test twice each week.
- Not attend school if they have Covid 19 symptoms, however mild.
- Book a PCR test if they have symptoms or if they have been a close contact of a positive case.
At the start of the academic year, I would like to remind pupils of the importance of travelling to and from school safely whether that be on foot, by bike or on CCBC School Transport buses. Pupils who travel by bus should be reminded of our collective expectations e.g. a pupil should remain in their seat until their bus stop, ensure that their behaviour does not distract the bus driver from safely driving the vehicle, and ensure that they are following our ‘ready, respect, safe’ principles. Should there be incidents of poor behaviour, CCBC School Transport may request the CCTV from the bus company and CCBC reserve the right to ban individuals from using school transport. Thank you for your support in ensuring that your child travels safely and sensibly to school.
Over the summer break we completed much of the improvement site works we had planned. Our sixth form common room refit has begun, and our sixth form students were delighted to see the first phase completed yesterday as the new seating and work pods arrived. With new office spaces, student sofa area and study area planned, our sixth form common room will be transformed over this half term.
We have many more exciting improvement works planned right across the school in 2021/2022 including outdoor covered seating areas, a new look to the front of school, and a significant investment in classrooms and communal spaces. We will update our website with photos of these exciting developments and improvements to our school site over the course of the year.
Yours sincerely
Miss Collins
