Dear Parents and Carers
I have been very pleased with the start to the new school year. Our new pupils are settling well, and it has been lovely to welcome back our pupils. We expect all to Aspire and Achieve here at St Cenydd, and we have started the school year by talking to all pupils about the small steps they can take this year to make further personal and collective improvements. With regard to our one, simple school rule – Ready, Respect, Safe - students should: be ready to learn by arriving on time and with the right equipment; show respect for themselves, others and their environment; and be safe by arriving at school by 8.25am and by behaving in a sensible manner. We will, of course, be practicing our fire and lockdown alarm drill in the near future.
Please continue to support us in keeping our school community safe:
- Anyone with symptoms, however mild, must not attend school. Symptoms are a new continuous cough, fever or high temperature or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste. Your child should remain in self-isolation at home, and please book a PCR test immediately. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 using a PCR test, NHS Test, Trace, Protect (TTP) will contact you, using the details provided when the PCR test was ordered. TTP will then get in touch with close contacts to provide instructions or advice.
- LFT tests are for use twice a week for non-symptomatic staff and children. The tests are available free of charge. You can sign up for your child to collect LFT tests in school to use at home, or you can collect these tests from your local pharmacy or order them online. Details are on our school website. If your child tests positive using a LFT test, please book a PCR test immediately.
- Please contact the school if your child tests positive or is isolating by either phoning the school during the school day or emailing stcca@caerphilly.gov.uk outside of school hours.
- Please send your child to school with a clean face covering each day. We can provide a face covering for children if they forget but these are at extra expense to the school.
Thank you also for your support in ensuring high uniform and punctuality standards. Nearly all pupils are dressed correctly in full school uniform. Please note that the blazer and tie are compulsory. The cardigan, jumper or tank top, optional items in cold weather, should be worn underneath the blazer and do not replace the blazer. Skirts should be knee length and nose studs are not allowed. Attendance and punctuality has also been good. Your support in ensuring excellent attendance and punctuality as well as the highest uniform standards is appreciated.
If you think your child may qualify for free school meals, please complete a CCBC online application https://www.caerphilly.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals. Children who qualify for a free school meal also qualify for a grant to help with school uniform and equipment purchases. If you would like assistance with your application, please contact your child’s Head of Year who will be happy to help.
Please find attached 2021/2022 key dates for your diary - parents evenings, INSET days and school term dates.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely
Miss Collins
