Aspire & Achieve

Over two thirds of 9.2.1 have opted to take Geography for GCSE next year because of this, Miss Webber decided to take them to Ogmore beach for an introductory fieldwork visit.

Miss Webber felt that a visit to a beach would enhance their understanding of coastal processes and landforms, which they have been studying this term in year 9.

The students explored different data collection methods and practised using the correct field study equipment needed to gather accurate primary data. Fieldwork is a compulsory element of the GCSE course and fieldwork processes are examined in year 11.

At Ogmore there is a small pebble beach, here it is possible for pupils to see the influence processes of erosion, transportation and deposition have on the structure of the beach and its composition. Pupils tested the hypothesis that ‘longshore drift occurs at Ogmore beach’.
