Music education develops the skills, attitudes and attributes that can support learning in other subjects. This includes listening skills, the ability to concentrate, creativity, intuition and perseverance, the ability to work in a group, self-confidence and sensitivity towards others. Further to formal music lessons, there are presently six peripatetic instrumental teachers, delivering tuition on a wide range of instruments and voice. A wide variety of extra-curricular activities are also offered within the department, including Performing Arts Club and Ukulele Club.

At Key Stage 3 the curriculum encompasses a wide range of practical projects focused around performing, composing and appraising. Projects include: finding your voice, ICT projects using Garage band, Welsh Music, Song Writing alongside studying Music from around the world.

At Key Stage 4 BTEC Performing Arts in Musical Theatre is delivered with the following units being completed:

  • Musical Theatre Skills
  • Individual Showcase
  • Preparation, Performance and Production
