BBC Radio 2- 500 Words Competition Launch for Year 7

Year 7 attended an assembly led by the Literacy Coordinator Mrs Smith this morning where
they were introduced to a creative writing competition. Pupils were shown the kind of
prizes that are on offer from Radio 2 for the winners of the short story competition which
was launched last week. The winners will be treated to a ride in the original Chitty Chitty
Bang Bang car, have tea and cake on Her Majesty The Queen's rowbarge – Gloriana, have
their story read by a celebrity and attend a star studded final at Hampton Court.
Entrants should write an original story on any subject or theme in 500 words or fewer and
submit it online. Each year, 10 million Radio 2 listeners hear, read and love these stories.
Winning entries could also win hundreds of books for the school library. Pupils can enter as
an individual through the BBC Website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00rfvk1) or
with the help of Mrs Smith. There will be a writing workshop for Year 7 pupils this Thursday
lunchtime in E8 with Mrs Smith where pupils will be inspired with ideas, ways to start
writing and top tips for creating a great story.
Please encourage your child to enter. The closing date for entries is Thursday 22 February
2018 at 19:00. Good Luck!
